Community Market
Every Thursday morning, we host our weekly Community Market on our Oxnard campus. This drive-through distributes fresh produce, canned goods, and other groceries at no cost to participants who have demonstrated need.
What started as a creative way to quickly distribute food to community members in need became a staple program during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. In February 2020, we fed roughly 100 families and households per week every Thursday; in a few short months, that average weekly number quadrupled we quadrupled our weekly distribution. In 2021, we saw a 40% increase in demand for groceries from the Community Market from 2020, and we distributed over 640,000 pounds of food to Ventura County communities.
Now, we distribute over 300 boxes of fresh produce and groceries every Thursday.
How you can help
Volunteers help coordinate the drive-through line, pack boxes of groceries, and ensure the households and families who drive through the Community Market are served with dignity. We are always looking for more volunteers who want to serve those in need and ensure Ventura County families do not go hungry. Contact Russell Wilson, Food Program Manager, at 805-816-5832 or email rwilson@ca-vc.org today to learn how you can help.
Food Hub
Our Food Program also serves as a hub for food pantries across Ventura County. As a food hub, we share resources and food to ensure every Ventura County community has access to fresh produce and groceries when they need it most. To see a list of local food pantries, visit our Partners & Resources page for more.
PARTNERS
Our food distribution is made possible by various partnerships in the community which include: FoodShare, FoodForward. Along with the State of California’s Cal Recycle Program and Waste-free Ventura County which allows us to recover edible food from going into landfills.
